Small-business website guide · Belfast & Northern Ireland

How much does a business website cost?

A practical guide to website pricing in Northern Ireland: what you pay for, what makes a quote higher, and how to choose a website that actually helps run your business.

There is no single honest price for every business website. A local business that needs opening hours and an enquiry form has different requirements from a salon taking deposits or a trades company managing quotes and jobs. The useful question is not simply “How cheap can I get a website?” but “What do I need it to do, and what will it cost to keep running?”

What are you actually paying for?

1. Planning and design

Understanding your customers, deciding what each page needs to achieve, and designing a layout that works on phones as well as desktops.

2. Development and functionality

Building the website itself. Features such as online bookings, ordering, payments, customer accounts and dashboards add more work than a static information page.

3. Testing, launch and search foundations

Checking forms, mobile layouts, accessibility, page performance, metadata, crawlability and redirects. These foundations help search engines discover and understand a site, but they do not promise rankings.

4. Hosting, maintenance and support

Keeping the site online, maintaining dependencies, handling agreed updates and responding when something needs attention. Always check what a monthly package does and does not cover.

Website or business system: what's the difference?

A brochure website tells customers what you offer. A connected business system can help handle what happens after they enquire, book or order.

For example, a salon might take bookings and deposits; a takeaway could receive orders in its kitchen dashboard; a trades business might turn enquiries into quotes, jobs and invoices. Those are different workflows, so the right solution starts with your day-to-day operation.

Questions to ask before accepting a website quote

  • What is included in the one-off build and monthly fee?
  • Who owns the domain, content and business data?
  • Can I update my prices, services and pictures myself?
  • Are booking, ordering and payment fees charged separately?
  • What happens if I need new features or want to move provider?
  • Will the website work properly on mobile and be accessible to customers?

Frequently asked questions

How much does a small-business website cost?

The price depends on what it needs to do. A simple brochure site and a website with bookings, ordering, payments or an admin dashboard are different projects. ZTACK publishes starting prices below, then agrees a written scope before work begins.

Why do website quotes vary so much?

Design, content, accessibility, mobile testing, integrations, security, hosting and ongoing support all affect the work involved. Compare what is included rather than judging the upfront figure alone.

Is a website a one-off cost?

The build is usually a one-off cost. Hosting, domain renewal, maintenance, software subscriptions and future changes can be recurring costs. Ask who owns the domain and what happens if you leave a provider.

Do I need online booking or ordering?

Only if it solves a real problem. A service business may benefit from booking and reminders; a takeaway may need a menu and order dashboard; a trades business may need quotes and job tracking.

Will paying more guarantee a higher Google ranking?

No. A technically sound website is a foundation, but rankings also depend on helpful content, competition, relevance and other signals. Nobody can guarantee a first-place Google ranking.
