Does custom business software really need a £10,000 budget?
Some UK development agencies advertise startup MVP projects from £10,000. But a small business trying to fix one frustrating workflow may need something much more focused.
One UK agency, Magora, advertises MVP development from £10,000 and full production builds from £25,000–£60,000. Those figures can make sense for complex, fully scoped projects involving specialist teams. They are not a universal market rate, and they are not a like-for-like comparison with a smaller system.
Start with the problem, not the price tag
A local business might need bookings connected to customer records, a simple stock dashboard, a way to manage quotes and jobs, or less repetitive data entry. The goal is not to build every possible feature. It is to make one important part of the business run better.
An MVP — minimum viable product — is the smallest usable version of a solution that can be tested with real work. Keeping its scope focused helps control cost and risk.
How ZTACK approaches an MVP
We talk through your current workflow, identify the essential steps and design a practical first version around how your business actually operates. For smaller projects within our supported scope, even our more involved MVP builds are intended to stay at or below £1,000 upfront; many are less.
That is not a promise to reproduce a £10,000–£60,000 agency project for £1,000. Larger or specialist requirements may fall outside what we can offer. Every project needs an agreed written scope, with hosting, maintenance, payment-provider charges and third-party subscriptions explained separately.
What might a focused system do?
- Connect bookings to a simple customer management view.
- Track jobs from enquiry to quote, schedule and invoice.
- Manage products, stock levels and orders in one place.
- Reduce manual handovers between messages and spreadsheets.
These are examples of possible workflows, not a claim that every feature is included in every package.
Compare the scope, not just the headline
Before accepting any quote, ask what is included: discovery, design, integrations, data security, testing, ownership, support and future changes. A low upfront price is only useful when the resulting system is reliable and fit for purpose.
